Getting Enough High Quality Fats?

Comments Off on Getting Enough High Quality Fats?

Avocados are an excellent source of high-quality vegetable-based fat.

It seems like a logical conclusion: eat fat and you will get fat. Well we now know this is untrue. And yet it still persists in our culture.

Eat sugar and a lot of bad quality fat, and then it’s probably true. The problem is that in the fear of fat, people are often actually not getting enough of this crucial substance.

Fat is a crucial ingredient for a healthy functioning nervous system. And since the nervous system actually governs everything, inadequate high-quality fat can lead to all sorts of issues like mood issues, anxiety, ADHD, pain, depression, cognitive disorders of the brain, eye-problems, heart issues, etc.

Another of my favorite high-quality, plant-based fats is coconut oil.

So what constitutes a high quality fat? Well there is some debate on this, but in my opinion, it starts with fresh and unadulterated. Things like avocado, seeds (esp flax, chia, and hemp), raw nuts, extra-virgin olive oil and coconut oil, organic ghee and butter from grass-fed cows to name some of my favorites.

Try adding some of these into your regimen and let me know how they work for you. And of course if you want to talk more specifically about your diet, give me a call!
